Recruitment of Medicare Beneficiaries Leads to Fraud

Maria Nela Morena has been convicted by a jury of conspiracy to commit healthcare fraud and six underlying counts of healthcare fraud. According to the DoJ, Morena solicited inelligible Medicare beneficiaries to purchase expensive, unnecessary wheelchairs. She copied their Medicare identification cards and sold the information to DME supply companies in the Los Angeles area who used it to create phony prescriptions. Morena received kickbacks for every wheelchair fraudulenty billed to Medicare using the stolen information. Ajibola Sadiqr, owner of Cooper Medical Supply, one of the DME companies who participated in Morena’s scheme, plead guilty to healthcare fraud.
