The DOJ has announced two guilty pleas as part of the prosecution of a home health fraud scheme in Detroit: based on their involvement in the scheme, Faisal Chandry pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit healthcare fraud and Guy Ross to one count of conspiracy to receive healthcare kickbacks.
According to the DOJ and the plea documents, Chandry, a physical therapy assistant employed by American Home Care Inc., admitted to signing documents that purported to record home health visits and therapy sessions that never occured. The false documents were used to fraudulently bill Medicare for approximately $1 million. Ross, a medical assistant, admitted to receiving kickbacks from Patient Choice Home Healthcare Inc., and All American Home Care Inc. in exchange for patient referrals. Ross also admitted selling the Medicare information of those patients – for $500 each – to Mohommed Shabob, who used the information to bill yet more fake physical therapy visits. Shabob has already entered a guilty plea.
