Physical therapist Baskaran Thangarasan signed over 1,000 fake physical therapy files. Now he’s going to jail. U.S. District Court Judge Sean Cox in the Eastern District of Michigan sentenced Thangarasan to just under five years plus an additional three years of supervised release. Earlier this year, FraudBlawg originally reported Thangarasan’s role in the sham physical therapy company, Sacred Hope Center. Thangarasan will share the burden of repaying the $2.3 million he and his co-conspirators Sandeep Aggarwal and Wayne Smith stole from HHS through the Medicare therapy scheme. According to DoJ, “Thangarasan admitted that he, his co-conspirator and others created fictitious therapy files appearing to document physical and occupational therapy services provided to Medicare beneficiaries, when in fact no such services had been provided.”
