Dr. Regina Benjamin has been tapped by President Obama to be the country’s lead spokeperson for health matters.  Dr. Benjamin, a treating physician for low-income families in Alabama, apparently enjoys bi-partisan support.  Republican Congressman, Jo Bonner, heralded the nomination, saying:

“The president did himself — and his administration — proud today, and I predict America is going to become a big fan of Dr. Benjamin.” — Rep. Jo Bonner (R-Mobile).

Benjamin’s nomination is the  latest move in the President’s attempt to address problems with America’s healthcare system, which both sides of the politcal aisle acknowledge is plagued by massive fraud and abuse.  Read the Birmingham News’ story about Dr. Benjamin’s nomination, here.
