Medical Assistant, Miriam Freytes, conspired to commit healthcare fraud by billing Medicare for infusions and injections that she never administered to Medicare beneficiaries at Dearborn Medical Rehabilitation Center (DMRC) in Detroit.  DMRC recruited beneficiaries and paid them to sign paperwork stating they had received injections and infusion therapy when in fact they had not.  Freytes also allowed DMRC to use her son’s Medicare number and her own Medicare number  to fraudulently bill Medicare.  According to the DOJ, Freytes behavior resulted in more than $1 million being billed to Medicare and being paid approximately $727,000 for unnecessary services or services never provided.
