Sylvester Ijewere, owner of Maydads Medical Supply, submitted false claims to Medicare for “expensive, high-end power wheelchairs and other DME” that he knew were unnecessary. Through a scheme of paying illegal kickbacks, says DoJ , Ijewere purchased doctor’s prescriptions and other medical documents to assist him in billing Medicare $471,345 in false claims to Medicare. He pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit healthcare fraud and faces 10 years in prison and $250,000 fine at an August 16, 2010 hearing.
