In April FraudBlawg reported the conviction of Paula Whitfield who: (1) sold power wheelchairs door-to-door in low-income Houston, Texas neighborhoods to people who didn’t need them; and (2) fraudulently billed Medicare certifying that the wheelchairs were “replacements” for wheelchairs lost in Hurricane Ike. Friday, she was sentenced to 21 months in prison and ordered to pay over $800,000 in restitution. Whitfield’s co-conspirator, Helen Etinfoh, will be sentenced on August 13.
