More "Arthritis-Kit" DME Fraud; 2 Plead Guilty in Houston

An administrative assistant and a patient recruiter at Family Healthcare Services and Family DME, Inc. in Houston Texas pleaded guilty yesterday to Medicare fraud. Rolondae Mitchell-Straughter and Ana Quinteros admitted to conspiring to commit healthcare fraud by submitting over $1.5 million in fraudulent claims to Medicare “for expensive, rigid orthotics and braces that were packaged together and referred to as an ‘arthritis kit,’ at a cost of approximately $4,000 per kit, when in fact, the equipment supplied was not medically necessary and in many cases not even supplied,” according to DoJ. They face 10 years in prison and $250,000 fine each.
