Dr. Toe Myint was the physician at Sacred Hope Center in Southfield, Michigan. Dr. Myint was found guilty of one count of conspiracy to commit health care fraud. According to the DoJ, Dr. Myint signed patient files ordering infusions and injections of corticosteroids and other medications, despite being aware that the patients did not need the drugs and that Medicare was being billed for the drugs. Dr. Myint and his co-conspirators caused approximately $4.2 million to be submitted to the Medicare program for services not provided or medically unnecessary. […] Smith Sentenced in Sacred Hope, Xpress Center Medicare Scam by fraudblawg on April 15, 2010 Wayne Smith with spend three years in jail and pay nearly $5 million in restitution for his part in what DoJ calls ”a wide-ranging conspiracy to defraud the Medicare program.” Smith worked in concert with various co-conspirators through fraudulent Michigan infusion clinics Sacred Hope Center Inc. and Xpress Center Inc, and FraudBlawg has consistently reported on this wide-spread fraud and the numerous guilty pleas and sentencing of those involved. At Smith’s sentencing hearing, federal prosecutors presented evidence that he paid kickbacks to more than 40 patients so that Daisy Martinez, Jose Rosario and others could fraudulently bill Medicare through the bogus infusion therapy clinics. Martinez was recently sentenced to 96 months in prison for her role in the scheme, as reported by FraudBlawg. Likewise, the clinic’s doctor, Toe Mynt, was found guilty of conspiracy to commit healthcare fraud for writing fraudulent scripts and orders for unneeded therapy.
