Scrushy Hiding Assets Shareholders Fear

Just one day after Judge Allwin Horn found Richard Scrushy liable to Healthsouth and its shareholders for masterminding the near $3 billion fraud that almost drove the company to bankruptcy, shareholders have begun the fight to collect.  Today, shareholder attorneys asked Judge Horn to freeze Scrushy’s assets so they can begin collecting in the face of his vow to appeal. An attorney for the shareholders told the Associated Press:

“We want to get started today. Every day gives him opportunity to do something else with his assets and makes them harder for us to find.”

Alabama Judge Horn found that Scrushy orchestrated the massive Healthsouth fraud and has ordered him to pay back the company and shareholders from his prison cell in Beaumont, Texas where he is incarcerated on an unrelated federal public corruption conviction.
