The Devil Went Down to Georgia (To Steal Medicare Numbers From Homeless)

Two Miami, Florida residents have pleaded guilty to trolling homeless shelters in Woodstock, Georgia and stealing their Medicare numbers to bill for bogus infusion therapy services at Towne Lake Rehab and Medical Center, LLC. Fernando Alfonso will be imprisoned for 30 months, and Rita Mateu will be imprisoned for 46 months for their roles in the scheme that resulted in more than $1,000,000 in false claims. According to Edward J. Tarver, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Georgia, others were also involved in the scheme.
