Expansion of the Medicare Fraud Strike Force operations now includes Brooklyn, N.Y., Tampa, Fla. and Baton Rouge, La. These cities are the fifth, sixth and seventh phases of an effort to protect Medicare from being fraudulently billed by individuals and health care companies. Thirty people were charged in three cities with Medicare fraud schemes, including conspiracy to defraud the Medicare program, conspiracy to launder money, money laundering, criminal false claims, making false statements and receiving kickbacks. The schemes amount up to over $61 million in false Medicare claims. According to the DoJ and HHS, “Medicare is a sacred promise to America’s seniors and we will do everything we can to protect it.”
