Trade Agreements Act (TAA) Violations Result in Qui Tam Whistleblower Settlement

Indiana-based University Loft Company has agreed to pay the United States $400,000 to resolve allegations that it knowingly sold Malaysian-made furniture to the government in violation of the Trade Agreements Act, announced the DoJ. To further government trade policy, the TAA sets requirements for the country of origin of products sold to the United States. University Loft Company was required to comply with the TAA under contracts with the General Services Administration that allowed it to sell to the military and other government purchasers.
