The DoJ announced that Visiting Physician Association, Farmington Hills, Mich., will pay the United States $9.5 million for submitting false claims to Medicare, TRICARE and Michigan Medicaid. The Physician Association filed claims for unneccessary home visits, test and procedures, as well as care plan oversights and more complex evaluation and management services than the Visiting Physicians actually provided. The lawsuit was filed under the qui tam whistleblower provisions of the False Claims Act. The whistleblowers will receive approximately $1.7 million of the settlement.
